Jean de Montenach
Jean-Francois-Joseph-Nicolas "le Turc" de Montenach (born June 30, 1766 in Friborg ; † June 5, 1842 there , entitled to live in Friborg) was a Swiss politician .
As a man of the Enlightenment, Montenach prepared the liberalism of the 19th century with all its contradictions and promises.
Life
Montenach was a diplomat and politician, the son of a Freiburg patrician family. After staying in Constantinople (hence "le Turc") as attaché to the French ambassador, Montenach became a member of the Council of Two Hundred . In 1798 he became president of the provisional Freiburg government. As a State Councilor from 1803 to 1837, he was involved in all governments. He played a leading role in the Restoration of 1814 and took part in the Congress of Vienna as a Swiss member of parliament . From 1798 to 1802 he was also mayor of Friborg .
