John Romer
John Louis Romer (born September 30, 1941 in Surrey ) is a British Egyptologist .
Life
He has designed and appeared in numerous national television programs that dealt with his field, such as The Seven World Wonders or Romer's Egypt . Alongside Michael Wood, he is considered one of the best known television researchers in Great Britain. The sun hat, which is reminiscent of the fictional researcher Indiana Jones, is striking in his clothing .
Romer came into contact with the subject of archeology through his studies of epigraphy . He originally worked as an epigraphist in Iran and Egypt . He began his archaeological activity in 1966 when he surveyed the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes , now known as Luxor (East Thebes), for the University of Chicago .
In 1978, together with his wife Elisabeth Romer , who is also an Egyptologist, he founded The Theban Foundation , a foundation dedicated to the preservation and research of ancient royal tombs in Thebes. As part of this foundation, he founded the Theban Mapping Project in 1978 , where all ancient sites in Thebes are mapped and stored in a database.
Romer published a variety of scientific publications , many of his works were also used as the basis for television documentaries. Today he lives in Tuscany .
