Today it is the headquarters of the diaconal social enterprise of the same name with further branches in Baden-Württemberg . The focus is on supporting the homeless , the unemployed , addicts , people in need of care and refugees . Together with the Dornahof, the Erlacher Höhe forms the Diakonieverbund Dornahof & Erlacher Höhe e. V.

history

On May 1, 1883, 32 men "from different professions and from all parts of the country" founded the "Association for the establishment of workers' colonies in Württemberg" in the Protestant club house in Stuttgart. In the year it was founded, the association bought the Dornahof (near Altshausen ) in order to set up a first workers' colony there. This is still the sister institution of the Erlacher Höhe to this day.

In 1891 the association took over the long dilapidated glassworks in Großerlach-Erlach and converted it. In the course of the work, dormitories for 30 men each and the associated utility rooms were created. Supported by the idea of “work instead of alms”, the association wanted to offer men who had become unemployed in the course of the industrial revolution and who moved across the country as so-called “ migrant arms ” a roof over their heads in exchange for the use of labor in the Erlach workers' colony . In 1911 333 so-called colonists lived on the Erlacher Höhe, where they worked in agriculture and provided for themselves. The staff of the facility at that time consisted of the householder Gottlieb Schnabel, his wife, two supervisors and three servants.

Although Erlach was largely spared the destruction of the Second World War, a phase of considerable construction activity began in the post-war period. The main building was expanded, various buildings were rebuilt, the large-scale agriculture was relocated to the so-called Helle Platte and completely rebuilt. Agriculture lost its importance in the 1960s. At this time, the first jobs in sheet metal and metal processing were created in the workers' colony.

In 1968 - well before addiction was recognized as a disease by the responsible cost bearers - the first attempts were made to give addicts the help they literally needed to survive. This happened from the seventies in connection with a spatial expansion of the offers to the cities of Murrhardt and Backnang and marked the beginning of a far-reaching technical and spatial differentiation.

Today the help system of the social therapy Helle Platte established at that time is a nationally recognized specialist facility for mentally and / or addicts and works closely with numerous network partners. In 1975 the Erlach workers' colony was renamed "Erlacher Höhe". Three years later she set up her first therapeutic flat share and in 1982 in Backnang a contact point for homeless people with emergency overnight stays. The facility has also been accepting women since 1987.

Since the 1990s, the portfolio has been expanded to include assistance for people who are disadvantaged in the labor market. When new developments in poverty became apparent from the turn of the millennium, the Erlacher Höhe developed a range of poverty-related aids such as social department stores and lunch tables, often combined with employment offers subject to social insurance.

The 2010s were initially shaped by the previous banking crisis, which made it necessary to focus again on help for unemployed people in the form of educational offers. When the Erlacher Höhe was requested in 2015 as part of the refugee crisis , a qualified, differentiated youth welfare service for unaccompanied, minor refugees was created in the Calw district . In 2016 the Erlacher Höhe celebrated its 125th anniversary under the motto: “125 years of being active for people. Life. Dignity. ”Today the social enterprise employs around 260 people. They look after around 1500 young people, women and men every day and offer help for the homeless, unemployed, for integration as well as nursing and social therapeutic support.

In 2008, the association founded the “ Stiftung LebensWert - unemployment and homeless aid in Baden-Württemberg”.

Today, Erlacher Höhe is a social enterprise with 16 locations in seven districts of Baden-Württemberg for people in different life situations, especially in social emergencies.
