KX painter
The KX painter was a vase painter of the Attic black-figure style. He was between 585 and 570 BC. Active.
The KX painter was next to the KY painter the most important representative of the Komasten group , which succeeded the Gorgon painter . He got his emergency name from John D. Beazley . He is considered to be the better and chronologically somewhat earlier representative of the Komasten group. As the first painter in Athens , he often depicted comasts on his picture carriers, which were taken from the vase painting of Corinth . He mainly painted skyphoi , lekanen , kothone and comast bowls . Unlike later representatives of the group, however, he still predominantly draws animals that are considered more carefully and vigorously drawn than those of the Gorgon painter. He also created a few mythological scenes. His little mythical scenes that he embedded in the animal friezes are particularly well known. The KX painter is probably the first painter who can keep up with the quality of the Corinthian vases that have prevailed to date. Imitations of his works are known from Boiotia .
