history
KYW started broadcasting in Chicago on Armistice Day , November 11, 1921 as the seventh radio station in the USA. After legal disputes over Interferezprobleme with other broadcasters she applied for station in 1932 a move to Philadelphia. In 1934, KYW moved to Whitemarsh Township with a new transmitter. In 1938 the new studio space was completed. This included a large broadcasting hall for public events.
In 1955, the owner Westinghouse exchanged his radio stations KYW and WPTZ with the NBC group for the television stations WNBK-TV and the radio station WTAM-AM / FM and 3 million USD in cash. The callsign KYW was relocated to Cleveland and the Philadelphia broadcasting building was renamed "NBC Building". Shortly after the deal, authorities conducted a review of the deal, followed by a nearly 10-year investigation that eventually led to the return of KYW TV and KYW AM to Westinghouse in 1965.
In December 1986, KYW began broadcasting in AM stereo using the C-QUAM system . The AM stereo signal was switched off again in 1998.
KYW has been part of CBS Radio since 1995 . In September 2007, KYW began broadcasting on HD radio .
