AM stereo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AM stereo is the name of a method to transmit stereophonic signals via radio transmitter in the long , medium or short-wave range . Because of the limited bandwidth available and the compatibility requirement , the pilot tone multiplex method used in the VHF range cannot be used for stereo transmission in this frequency band .

The usual AM stereo method found in North America is C-QUAM from Motorola .

transmission

The amplitude-modulated signal contains the sum information of both channels. It can be received with any conventional radio device for long, medium and short wave. In order to get to the stereo information, one has to demodulate the differential signal of both channels transmitted according to the quadrature modulation method and combine the information thus obtained with a suitable decoding circuit and with the help of the sum signal to form the signals for both channels.

application

AM stereo is not used in Germany . It is widely used in the United States , Russia , South Africa, and Australia . In Europe , the process of the night receivable in Germany was transmitters of France Bleu to 864  kHz in Villebon-sur-Yvette applied. Radio France ended its medium wave broadcasts on December 31, 2015. AM stereo is also used by Italian Radio Studio X at 1584 kHz.
