Darß-Wieck concentration camp
The Darß-Wieck concentration camp was a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp near Hamburg . It existed from January 1941 to the end of February 1941.
history
The concentration camp was set up as a satellite camp in Wieck a. Darß built on the Darß , west of Stralsund . At the beginning of 1941 the SS had the prisoners housed in a tavern. About 50 prisoners were needed to cut thatch . The prisoners worked in cold water only in a suit made of Drillich. From February 1941 the SS transported all prisoners back to the Neuengamme main camp. Most of the inmates were Jehovah's Witnesses . One of the two guards of the prisoners was Ewald Jauch , who was camp leader in the Bullenhuser Damm subcamp in 1945 . A year later, prisoners were again used to cut thatch; they were held in the Darß-Zingst satellite camp.
