Kaarlo Soinio (full name: Kaarlo Eino Kyösti Soinio; alternatively: Karl Gustaf Salin ; born January 28, 1888 in Helsinki ; † October 24, 1960 ibid.) Was a Finnish football player , referee and gymnast as well as sports reporter and sports teacher. He was the brother of Eino Soinio who was the captain of the Finnish national soccer team for many years .

Career

Soccer

Kaarlo Soinio played in his career as a football player at HJK Helsinki . With the club he could twice in a row; Win the Finnish Football Championship in 1911 and 1912 . He played for the club mostly as a defender. With the Finnish national team he took part in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm . In the soccer tournament he was only able to play the first game against Italy due to injury . In the further course of the tournament, the team, which, among others, played with his brother Eino and Gösta Löfgren, lost against Great Britain in the semi-finals. Finland lost to the Netherlands in the third place match .

In 1920, Soinio was the referee of the friendly international match between Finland and Estonia in Helsinki.

Gymnastics

With the Finnish apparatus gymnasts he won the Olympic bronze medal in the team all-round at the Summer Olympics in London in 1908 .

Sports teacher and sports reporter

Soinio worked full-time as a sports teacher and later as a reporter for the sports section of Helsingin Sanomat . (German Helsinkier Nachrichten )
