Cabinet Cavour I

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cavour I cabinet ruled the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont from November 4, 1852 to May 4, 1855. In contrast to the two previous Massimo d'Azeglios cabinets, the government of the Conservative Prime Minister Camillo Benso was based on a larger parliamentary coalition ( Connubio) , which also included the progressive democrats Urbano Rattazzis . Cavour's government achieved Piedmontese participation in the Crimean War , with the aim of putting the Italian question on the political agenda of the great powers. Cavour resigned in early May 1855 because of a conflict over the separation between church and state that had been going on for years . King Victor Emmanuel II came across in his attempt to meet the demands of Pope Pius IX. to conform to significant political opposition. Because of this, and in the absence of alternatives, the King entrusted Cavour with the formation of the Cavour II cabinet .
