The coffee brewery Blumenstrüßl is a traditional café on the main square of Grein an der Donau in Upper Austria that has been valued for generations . The larch ceiling in the guest room is a listed building ( list entry ).

Buildings and furnishings

The town house on Grein's town square dates back to 1450. After the great city fire in 1642, the larch wood ceiling, which is now a listed building, was installed. The two tiled stoves date from the Biedermeier period . The cherry wood interior was designed in the Biedermeier style in 1924.

Owner and tenant

In 1876, Karl Kern leased an existing restaurant and coffee house, which he was able to purchase in 1883. In the course of time the business was expanded to include soda production , wine trading and - to match - a cooperage .

In 1923 Edmund Karwinski leased the coffee house and had it furnished in the Biedermeier style by architect Bukowitsch from Waidhofen an der Ybbs . Then other tenants who did not belong to the family took turns.

From 1959 to 1995 Maria and Rudolf Kern ran the bouquet of flowers. From 1954 to 1970 Frucade and Soda were also produced.

From 1995 there were various tenants again until Klaus-Dieter Heilmann, the great-great-great-grandson of Karl Kern or grandson of Maria and Rudolf Kern, reopened the Blumenstrüßl coffee brewery on November 26, 2016 after a stylish renovation. In keeping with the family tradition of the wine trade, a vinotheque was also set up, which is adjacent to the coffee house in the direction of the Greiner City Theater , which has been in use since 1791 .
