Kafr el-Sheikh ( Arabic كفر الشيخ, DMG Kafr al-Šayḫ ), Egyptian-Arabic Kafr El Sheikh , is the capital of the governorate of the same name in Egypt and is centrally located in the Nile Delta . The city is located 134 km north of Cairo and has a population of 147,380 inhabitants (2006).
Four kilometers south of the city is the village of Sacha, where the ancient Xois was once located.

The city of Kafr el-Sheikh has a modern university attended by almost 30,000 students, which was named the best university in Egypt by the Minister for Higher Education and Research at the beginning of November 2018.
