Kai Melcher

Kai Melcher (born January 1, 1971 in Magdeburg ) is a former German cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He was a member of the SC Dynamo Berlin club when he celebrated the greatest success of his sporting career in 1988. At the UCI Junior World Track Championships in Denmark  , he won the gold medal in the 1000-meter time trial . A year later in Moscow he won bronze (silver went to Tom Steels , who later became a successful professional). Third place at the GDR indoor championships in 1988 was his best place in the men's class.

In the following years, despite a few victories in track races, he was unable to build on the great successes as a junior.
