Kairos Europa is an ecumenical network of different church groups, associations and individuals, inspired by liberation theology , who work for the environment and a just world order.

history

The network emerged from the Kairos process, a church initiative founded in 1985 that campaigned against apartheid in South Africa. The idea of ​​a European Kairos process then emerged in 1989 at the first European Ecumenical Assembly of Churches. Ulrich Duchrow was an important initiator . The aim was to conduct a broad ecclesiastical and social debate on the consequences of globalization at all levels and thereby contribute to a more just and tolerant world.

In 2012, Kairos Europe joined the Umfairteile alliance .

Structure and way of working

Kairos Europa is organized as an association registered in Heidelberg . As one of the approx. 170 member organizations of the Attac organization , it has a decentralized self-image. There are now numerous regional groups. The movement cooperates with various social movements and initiatives, with trade unions , non-governmental organizations and with churches at all levels, including the World Council of Churches . It has numerous cooperation partners and sympathizers, organizes conferences and appears at church conventions .
