The Kaiserau tunnel is an 1861 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg east of the small town of Melsungen in northern Hesse .

Location and course

The tunnel passes under a forest area northeast of Melsungen.

The route describes a right curve in a southerly direction.

To the north, after a short section of open lines, the Hainbuchtunnel joins. The Kehrenbach valley bridge follows to the south.

history

The structure was planned in 1984 with a length of 1814 m at a cost of 48.1 million DM. It was to be built between September 1984 and March 1987.

The structure was part of planning section 13 in the middle section of the new line.

The tunnel was put into operation in 1991 as part of the new Göttingen – Fulda section. The Kaiserau transfer point in the tunnel was later dismantled.
