The cocoa thrush ( Turdus fumigatus , also: Sabiadrossel ) is a songbird from the thrush family (Turdidae). It is not one of the endangered species .
description
The brownish bird with light breast feathers has a gray beak and dark gray iris rings . The cocoa thrush reaches a body length of 22 to 24 centimeters.
Subspecies
The following subspecies have been described:
- T. f. aquilonalis ( Cherrie , 1909): northeastern Colombia , northeastern Venezuela, and Trinidad .
- T. f. orinocensis Zimmer, JT & Phelps , 1955: eastern Colombia and western Venezuela.
- T. f. fumigatus Lichtenstein, MHK , 1823: Guyanas and the north and east of Brazil .
- T. f. bondi Deignan , 1951: St. Vincent .
- T. f. personus ( Barbour , 1911): Grenada .
habitat
The cocoa thrush lives in densely forested areas in South America between Colombia and Brazil .
nutrition
The cocoa thrush feeds mainly on ants and insects , but also on berries, worms and insects.
Reproduction
The cocoa thrush breeds individually, it does not form swarms. The female lays two to three eggs , which are incubated for about two weeks before the young birds hatch.
