Kalø is about 0.1 square kilometers comprehensive island in the Syddjurs municipality in the Central Jutland in Denmark .
Geography and geology
The small island of Kalø belonging to Djursland is located in the bay Kalø Vig, which is named after it . It is connected to the mainland by an artificial dam and is around 2 kilometers south of Rønde . Kalø is designated as an area biotope.
The island is located in the area of a terminal moraine from the Elster Ice Age .
History and sights
Kalø is home to Kalø Castle , the construction of which began in 1313 by King Erik IV Menved . The ruins and the associated ramparts on the island of Kalø can be viewed.
In 1953, as part of a study, the deer population was almost completely shot on trial areas near Kalø.
