Aloe perryi is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet perryi honors Wykeham Perry, whocollected plantson Socotra in 1880.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe perryi grows individually and as a stem. The upright or prostrate shoots are about 30 inches long and 5 inches wide. The twelve to 30 lanceolate, pointed leaves form dense rosettes . The glaucous green, reddish tinged leaf blade is 35 centimeters long and 7.5 centimeters wide. The light brown teeth on the leaf margin are about 4 millimeters long and 6 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence usually consists of two to three branches and reaches a length of 50 to 60 centimeters. The dense, elongated cylindrical grapes are 15 to 25 inches long and 5 to 6 inches wide. The lanceolate-deltoid bracts are 4 to 6 millimeters long. The bright red, greenish tipped flowers stand on 8 millimeter long flower stalks and turn yellow when opened. They are 20 to 25 millimeters long and narrowed briefly at their base. Above the ovary , the flowers are slightly narrowed and then widen again towards their mouth. Your tepals are not fused together over a length of 8 millimeters. The stamens and the style protrude up to 1 millimeter from the flower.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe perryi is widespread in Socotra on limestone rocks at heights of up to 650 meters.

The first description by John Gilbert Baker was published in 1880.

Aloe perryi is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. low risk, classified.
