Kalekoy

Kaleköy ( Turkish for "Burgdorf") is a small town in the Turkish province of Antalya , built on the remains of the ancient city of Simena . The place is located on the coast between Kaş and Demre , directly opposite the island of Kekova and is even today only accessible on foot or by boat.
Some grave inscriptions and coin finds indicate that the place was already in the 4th century BC. Existed. In ancient times, Simena belonged to the Lycian League , along with Aperlai , Apollonia and Isinda , but had never gained greater importance. Only a few ruins from ancient times have survived. Remains of the Titus Thermen are now in the water. The necropolis with mostly Roman sarcophagi in the Lycian style have partly sunk. A single sarcophagus protrudes freely from the water, around it the remains of sunken paths can be seen. Further up, a small Lycian theater is carved into the rock. Seven rows of seats offered space for around 300 people.
A medieval crusader castle rises above the village. It was built on ancient foundations by the Knightly Order of St. John , who ruled Rhodes until 1522 . The castle walls with their swallowtail battlements are well preserved.
Today's Kaleköy lies on the Lycian Way . From Üçağız , the hiking trail leads through rather impassable terrain to Kaleköy. Most visitors come to Kaleköy by boat. Boat tours are offered from Üçağız, Kaş, Demre and Andriake .
