Kalle Laanet (born September 25, 1965 in Tagavere , Saaremaa Island , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . He was Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Estonia from 2005 to 2007.

Life and politics

Kalle Laanet attended schools in Tagavere and Orissaare from 1972 to 1979 and the sports boarding school in the Estonian capital Tallinn from 1979 to 1983 . From 1986 to 1988 he completed the training facility of the Soviet Estonian militia in Tallinn. He then worked as a police officer until 1993. From 1993 to 1995 Laanet was employed in the Estonian Criminal Police Office. From 1995 to 2002 Laanet was police prefecture of the Saare prefecture responsible for the Estonian islands, 2002/2003 of the prefecture of Tallinn and 2004/2005 of the western Estonian prefecture of Lääne. In 2001 he graduated from the private University Concordia Rahvusvaheline Ülikool Eestis in law .

From April 2005 to April 2007 Kalle Laanet was Minister of Interior of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Juhan Parts . Since 2005 he was a member of the Estonian Center Party ( Eesti Keskerakond ). After leaving the government, Laanet was a member of the Estonian parliament from 2007 to 2012 as a member of the Center Party. From 2012 to 2014 he was an independent member of parliament. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Estonian Reform Party (Reformierakond), which he has since represented in the Estonian Parliament. In March 2019 he was re-elected as a member of the Estonian Parliament. He was considered one of the sharpest internal party critics of the former chairman of the Center Party and Lord Mayor of Tallinn, Edgar Savisaar .

Kalle Laanet is married. He has a son and two daughters.
