The Kallsjön is a lake in Jämtland ( Sweden ). To the north are the lakes Anjan and Torrön .
The lake has an area of 158 km², is up to 134 meters deep and has been regulated for electricity generation since the 1940s. The lake used to be called Kalln , which means something like guy or boy in old Jämtland dialects. So there is no connection with the Swedish word for cold ( kall ), although this would be obvious given the year-round low water temperature in the lake due to the geographic location. The name-giving guy was a relative of the Nordic god Freyer ( Frö ), after whom the island of Frösön in Lake Storsjön is named. At the southern end, the Kallsjön is drained by the Järpströmmen river, which flows into the Indalsälven near Järpen .
