Map with all coordinates: The Kalumburu Road is an Outback -Piste in the far north of the Australian state of Western Australia , in the Kimberley region. It connects the Aboriginal settlement of Kalumburu with the Gibb River Road .

About 110 km northeast of Mount Barnett Roadhouse and 300 km west of Kununurra , the Kalumburu Road branches off from the Gibb River Road to the north. After 59 km you pass the Drysdale River Station , the only refueling option on this route to Kalumburu. The two junctions, to Mitchell River National Park via Mitchell River Road and to Drysdale River National Park via Carson River Station , are 110 and 189 km away. After another 19 km, Kalumburu is reached. Since the road leads through Aboriginal areas, a permit is required.
Road conditions
The entire length of Kalumburu Road is unpaved and there are numerous river crossings. Therefore, the road quickly becomes impassable when it rains, and it is completely closed in the rainy season. During the dry season you need an all-wheel drive vehicle with sufficient ground clearance. Although the road is regularly graded, it always becomes a washboard runway .
