Kalvarienberg is the name of a 753 m high moraine hill from the Würme Ice Age in the area of the municipality of Rott in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech .
Location and surroundings
The Kalvarienberg is located directly east of the municipality of Rott, the Rottbach flows along the southern bottom of the valley .
Surname
Before the Way of the Cross was built, the name Eichberg was in use for the Calvary .
history
As early as 1100 the "noble von Rott" had their seat on the elevation.
In 1878 a way of the cross with 14 stations was laid out on the summit. The St. Apollonia chapel, which was built around 1800, was expanded and got a new bell in 1879.
Finally, in 1894, a Lourdes grotto was built halfway up .
Until the local reform in 1972, the Kalvarienberg was the highest point in the Landsberg am Lech district.
