Kama Sywor Kamanda

Kama Sywor Kamanda (born November 11, 1952 in Luebo in the Congo ) is a Congolese and Luxembourgish writer , dramaturge, poet, novelist and philosopher with Egyptian roots. He studied journalism , political science and law in Europe and Africa . Today he lectures at universities in various countries and is the author of cultural and political reviews.

As a poet and novelist , he has created numerous notable and globally recognized literary works. Since the publication of his first book “Tales of African Evening Hours” (Les Contes des veillées africaines) in 1967, his previous work has comprised around a dozen volumes with a total of a thousand poems and various anthologies with hundreds of stories. His literary oeuvre also contains a number of novels.

As a narrator, he stands out through his literary reports, which are simultaneously inspired by personal experiences, his imagination and the traditions and realities of the black continent. His fairytale stories are pervaded by the culture and history of all African countries.

As a poet, he enriches contemporary poetry with the richness of his language and metaphors. Critics and some of the greatest poets of his time such as Mario Luzi and Léopold Sédar Senghor highlight the power of his verses and the richness of his imagination.

As a novelist, Kamanda carries his Africa and his dreams away from home. His writings reveal a fighter against totalitarian powers, but also a helper for men and women who are quietly fighting for their rights and survival and that of their children. As a committed writer, he has always seen himself as a “soul between the dreams and illusions, the joy and pain of the African world”.

As a dramaturge he transports us into the world of the ancient Egyptians and brings back the tragedies and battles of that time, as well as the size, splendor and wealth of ancient Egypt and Nubia.
