Kambanes is a peninsula in eastern Iceland. It is located at the tip of the larger peninsula that separates the Breiðdalsvík bay and the Stöðvarfjörður fjord . The ring road runs through the 600 meter wide isthmus in between . Until November 2017 the street was called Suðurfjarðavegur . Kambanes is located in the municipality of Fjarðabyggð in the Austurland region .
Immediately south of Kambahnúta, the only mountain with a height of 81 meters, is the Heyklif homestead. Another, called Kambar, near the south coast, was abandoned in 1944 , but ruins remain. The Kambanesviti lighthouse, built in 1922, is located on the southeastern headland.
