Kamil al-Husseini ( Arabic كامل الحسيني; * February 23, 1867 ; † March 31, 1921 in Jerusalem ) was a Sunni religious leader and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem from 1908 until his death .

Life

Al-Husseini was the son of Mohammed Tahir al-Husseini, the first Jerusalem Grand Mufti; when his father died in 1908, he succeeded him in the office. Unlike his father, during the time of the British mandate he sought a compromise with the British and the Zionists , with whose deputies he met. The British authorities appointed him chairman of the court of appeal and later director of the Waqf High Committee.

After his death, his half-brother Mohammed Amin al-Husseini was appointed Grand Mufti.
