Pierre Contant d'Ivry
Pierre Contant d'Ivry (born May 11, 1698 in Ivry-sur-Seine , † October 1, 1777 in Paris ) was a French architect of the 18th century. He was one of the leading exponents of Louis-quinze and Louis-seize .
Life
Pierre Contant d'Ivry became a member of the Académie royale d'architecture in 1728 . He later carried the title of architect of the king . He worked for the court and for clients of the high nobility, such as the Prince de Conti and the Duke of Orléans .
Works
Contant d'Ivry designed important buildings that were unfinished at the beginning of the French Revolution and were completed according to different designs.
- Bizy Castle in Vernon (Eure) (1741–43); rebuilt in sections in the 19th and 20th centuries
- Penthemont Abbey (from 1747), completed in a reduced form after Contant d'Ivry's death
- Parish church of La Madeleine in Paris (1764), completed greatly modified after the revolution
- Saint-Vaast Abbey Church in Arras (1770s), completed after the revolution, greatly modified
