Kamilya Jubran ( Arabic كميليا جبران Kamilya Dschubran , DMG Kamīlyā Ǧubrān ; also Joubran ; * 1963 in Akkon , Israel ) is a Palestinian singer and instrumentalist with Israeli nationality. She sings in Standard Arabic and sets modern Arabic and poems translated into Arabic to music.

Career

Kamilya Jubran is the daughter of a music teacher and instrument maker, who taught her at the age of four and taught her how to play the oud and the Qanun box zither .

In 1982, at the age of 19, she became a member of the Jerusalem music group Sabreen , which she helped shape as lead singer and instrumentalist until 2002. The band was an important exponent of Palestinian political music.

Since 2000, Kamilya Jubran has been performing not only in Arab countries, but also in Europe with various of her own music projects ( Mahattaat, Wameedd ) and a solo program. In addition to her own songs, her program includes poetry settings by various authors.
