Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years is an unreleased US animated series broadcast by Nickelodeon . As a precursor to SpongeBob SquarePants , the series focuses on ten-year-old SpongeBob attending a summer camp. The series forms the link to the third film in the series.
Origin and production
SpongeBob inventor Stephen Hillenburg last visited the Nickelodeon studio in August 2018; he died in November as a result of his ALS disease. Brian Robbins became President of Nickelodeon in October 2018 . On the second day in this role, he attended a pitch meeting for the 13th season of the SpongeBob series. This inspired him to massively expand the franchise , although Hillenburg had always resisted it. In June 2019, six months after Hillenburg's death, Robbins gave Kamp Koral the green light . Initially, 13 episodes are planned, which Nickelodeon has been producing since June 2019. Unlike the original series, Kamp Koral is completely 3D animated.
Charisma
In September 2019 it was announced that the series would make its UK debut in August 2020. On February 19, 2020, it was announced that it would launch in the United States in July 2020. Executive Producer Vincent Waller announced on Twitter that the series could be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic as animation work in India was affected by the curfew .
criticism
Paul Tibbitt , long-time co-writer of the SpongeBob series, criticized the decision for Kamp Koral on Twitter . Stephen Hillenburg never wanted a spin-off, he called the decision of the producers "convenient and greedy". An online petition against the series received over 75,000 signatures.
