Kampen is a district in Oslo between Tøyen , Hasle , Vålerenga and Galgeberg in Gamle Oslo .

history

Militiamen held their exercises in this area in the 18th century. The area belonged to Bergløkken and Oslo Ladegård until it was split up in 1820. Between 1859 and 1878 a settlement of wooden houses was built. Some houses burned down in 1879 and were then replaced by stone houses. The old wooden houses are still characteristic of this settlement today. In Brinken, historical buildings were demolished in the 1980s, which was very controversial.

On April 13-14, 1878, street battles broke out between workers, the police and the military.

In the 1920s, many communists lived in Kampen, so that the place was nicknamed " Petrograd ".
