Thorbjørn Egner

Thorbjørn Egner (born December 12, 1912 in Kristiania (now Oslo ), † December 24, 1990 in Oslo) was a Norwegian children's author and illustrator.

Life

Thorbjørn Egner grew up in Kampen in Oslo. As a trained draftsman, he worked for some time as a commercial artist . He became known nationwide as a children's book author in Norway, mainly with Karius and Baktus , which also gained importance outside of Norway. Today the book is one of the children's book classics and has also been filmed several times. Egner illustrated many of his books himself. He was also active as a composer. In 1979 he received the Norwegian literary prize Cappelenprisen .

On December 24, 1990, Thorbjørn Egner died of a serious heart attack at the age of 78 . He left a wife and four children.

His great-grandson is the ski jumper Halvor Egner Granerud .
