Jon Bing (* 30th April 1944 in Tønsberg , † 14. January 2014 ) was a Norwegian science fiction - writer , translator and lawyer . He was Professor of Computer Law at the University of Oslo and Visiting Professor at the University of London .

Life

Bing studied philosophy in Trondheim and law in Oslo . After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist and as a research assistant at the University of Oslo. He was one of the co-founders of the Norwegian Research Center for Computer Law . Bing received his doctorate in 1982 and was appointed full professor in 1988. In 1997 and 1998 he also received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Stockholm and Copenhagen .

His first book, the short story collection Rundt solen i ring , he published in 1967 together with Tor Åge Bringsværd . He wrote, partly in collaboration with Bringsværd, over 30 books, including novels , short prose collections and books for young people . He also translated American science fiction, including by Douglas Adams , into Norwegian and wrote plays, screenplays and radio plays.

Bing was considered one of the most important Norwegian science fiction writers and the most important Norwegian expert on computer law. In 1999 he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Saint Olav .

The awards he received for his literary work include the Riverton Prize in 1978 and the Brageprisen in 2001.
