Kamran Shirazi (born November 21, 1952 in Tehran ) is a French chess player of Iranian origin. He has held the title of International Master since 1978 .

Life

Shirazi played at the 1972 , 1974 and 1976 Chess Olympiads for Iran and scored a total of 23.5 points from 43 games. He won the 17th Iranian individual championship in 1972/73. In 1979 he emigrated to the USA , where he earned his living as a professional chess and backgammon player and as a chess coach. He won the Southern California Open in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1988, among others . In 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1992 he played the national championships of the USA, but suffered a few setbacks there. In 1984 he was bottom of the table with only half a point from 17 rounds and lost the shortest game in the history of this tournament with White against Jack Peters : 1. e4 c5 2. b4 cxb4 3. a3 d5 4. exd5 Qxd5 5. axb4 Qe5 + 0: 1. Also in 1992 he finished last with a point from 15 games. His best result in 1986 was a 6th place with 8 points from 15 games.

From 1994 he played numerous tournaments in Europe and moved his center of life to France. He achieved three norms for the title of grandmaster (Le Touquet 1998, Cannes 2002 and Metz 2006), but has not yet achieved the required Elo rating . Since 2006 he has been eligible to play for the Fédération Française des Échecs . In the French team championship he played for the Paris club Lutèce Echecs , including in the top division, the top 16 in the 2008/09 season , and in the top 12 for Tremblay-en-France in the 2017 season . In Germany, Shirazi plays since 2012 for the Munich SC 1836 .

Shirazi is considered a very original player with a tactical style and a penchant for unusual openings . His strengths are particularly evident in blitz chess . He made a cameo in the 1993 film Searching for Bobby Fischer .

Its Elo rating fluctuates strongly, in January 2002 it reached a maximum value of 2486, in October 2004 it fell to 2386. The rating differences in the United States Chess Federation were even more pronounced ; from 1991 to 1993 there were values ​​between 2607 and 2460.
