Kanagawa ( Japanese Kanagawa- machi Japanese script 神奈川 町 ) was a city (-machi) in the district (-gun) Tachibana of the Japanese prefecture (-ken) Kanagawa . As a modern community , it consisted of the introduction of the communities in 1889, when they united the premodern cities of Aoki, Kanagawa and part of the village of Shibō ( 芝 生 村 Shibō-mura ; homophonic with 死亡 shibō , death, the name of the resulting district was later on Citizen's wish changed by the city parliament of Yokohama to Sengen-chō). In 1901 it was incorporated into the capital of Kanagawa, the independent city (-shi) Yokohama . Kanagawa was also the seat of Tachibana county government; this was moved in 1901 to the city (-machi) Kawasaki .

The area of ​​the city of Kanagawa extended into today's districts (-ku) Kanagawa and Nishi (west) of Yokohama.
