King Kang

Kang , King of Zhou or K'ang, King of Chou ( Chinese : 周 康王; Pinyin : Zhōu Kāng Wáng ) was the third ruler of the Chinese Zhou dynasty . He ruled from 1005 BC. Until his death in 978 BC. Chr.

Life

Kang, whose personal name was Zhao (釗, zhāo), was the son of King Cheng , who had consolidated the empire after the significant expansion of the Zhou territory and who recommended a peaceful policy geared towards the empire's development to his successors. There is no reference to military activity in the chronicles until the end of Kang's reign. The Shiji reports that for forty years there was no punishment in the kingdom. However, ritual bronzes have been found that tell of a victory against a people named Guifang in the Ordos area at the end of Kang's reign. It can therefore be assumed that after the empire was consolidated at the beginning of his reign, Kang carefully worked towards expansions in the second half of his rule.
