Canton of Worms

The Canton of Worms (French: Canton de Worms ) was one of ten administrative units into which the Speyer arrondissement in the Donnersberg department was divided. The Canton was in the years 1798 to 1804 part of the First French Republic and the First French Empire (1804-1814). After the Rheinhessen region became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1816 , the cantons were initially retained and were part of the administrative structure until 1835.

The canton of Worms exclusively comprised the area on the left bank of the Rhine of the former Free and Imperial City of Worms with 6,000 inhabitants (1815). It thus consisted of just one mairie , whose administration also represented the canton administration.

On February 5, 1835, the district of Worms was formed from the cantons of Osthofen , Pfeddersheim and Worms .
