The BBZ Solothurn includes the three schools of the commercial vocational school (KBS), the commercial-industrial vocational college (GIBS) and the adult education center (EBZ) . The commercial vocational school has been located in a rented building since 1972, which no longer meets the requirements for both school lessons and security. As a solution to the situation, the renovation of the current property, the search for another rental property or the construction of a new school building were considered. The new building turned out to be the best option both for school lessons and from an economic point of view. For the new building, the existing GIBS workshop wing will be demolished.

The cost of the new building was calculated at CHF 29.8 million. After deducting the contributions from the federal government and the city of Solothurn , the canton will invest CHF 21.5 million. This referendum is used to vote for a commitment loan to finance this sum.
