The cantonal referendum “Loan commitment to the restoration work in Einsiedeln Abbey” (full official title: “Credit of CHF 8,000,000.00 to restoration work 2013-2022 in Einsiedeln Abbey” ) was a referendum in the Swiss canton of Schwyz , which took place on 23. September 2012 took place. The content of the vote was the approval of a commitment loan to share the costs of the restoration work at Einsiedeln Abbey .

Background and content

As early as 2001, a loan of 8 million to help finance the restoration work at Einsiedeln Abbey was accepted by the canton in a referendum. These funds were used up by the end of 2012. For the rest of the restoration work until 2022, costs of a further 63.5 million francs were calculated in 2012. Of this amount, 32 million Swiss francs were recognized for work for restoration measures that preserve value from an art-historical point of view. For monuments of national importance, 25% of these costs are usually borne by the canton. This results in another 8 million, which according to the cantonal constitution is subject to a mandatory referendum as a financial referendum .
