The district of March is a district of the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland and essentially comprises the south bank of the Obersee and the Wägital . It consists of nine political communities .

historical development

Due to its location, the region belongs to the " Ausserschwyz ", a former subject of the Schwyz estate, and after the reaction in 1814 there were brief efforts to form the canton of Ausserschwyz in order to shake off a worse position than that of the Innerschwyz canton . Instead, the constitution was revised in 1833. At the time the canton of Jura was split off, Blick reported on March 22, 1975 about an Ausserschwyz separatist movement that was more of a joke. From July 18, however, there were advertisements in newspapers seeking sympathizers for a split. However, only one working group appeared in public in September with a catalog of problems, which called for a decentralization of administration and schools, as well as a change in the composition of the government commissions.

The March also bears the unflattering nickname "Canton of Murder and Manslaughter".
