Central Schwyz
The Innerschwyz region comprises the districts of Schwyz , Gersau and Küssnacht am Rigi in the canton of Schwyz . In many cases, the Lucerne municipalities of Greppen , Weggis and Vitznau on the Rigi- Südlehne are also included.
This region, which historically belongs to the forest sites and thus contributed to the creation of the Old Confederation around 1291, is located on the Gotthard traffic axis . Unlike the northern part of the canton of Ausserschwyz , which belongs to the agglomeration of Zurich , Innerschwyz is oriented towards Lucerne .
In terms of tourism, the region is marketed under the label Swiss Knife Valley , as Victorinox manufactures the world-famous Swiss Army Knives in Ibach .
