The Wägital is a valley in the March district or in the Alps of the Swiss canton of Schwyz . It stretches from Siebnen south to the foot of the Schwalbenchöpf ( 1670  m above sea level ), where you can either go southwest over the Schwialppass towards the Pragelpass or eastwards to Richisau at the end of the Klöntal . The only two places are Innerthal and Vorderthal . In Wägital lies the Wägitalersee , which was dammed from July 19, 1924 to generate electricity.

The original village of Innerthal had to be abandoned due to the construction of the dam, which was completed in 1924. The church of Innerthal was blown up and rebuilt higher up. Innerthal remained an independent municipality. The power plant's concessionaires are Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG and the city of Zurich's electricity company with 50% each.

The “Stausee” inn is on the right-hand side of the Wägitalersee by the dam. The public bus line that connects the Wägital with Siebnen , Tuggen and Uznach ends there . The concessionaire is the Swiss Postbus Service with its Linth-Schwyz-Glarus regional center, which awards the transport contract to Xaver Kistler in Reichenburg.

tourism

Other important branches of business are small businesses, agriculture and alpine farming. The area is also interesting for tourists, especially because of the mountains and the lake. There are several mountain tours, hiking and climbing routes available. The Wägitalersee is known as a good fishing lake, which attracts hundreds of fishermen every weekend. At the end of the lake is the so-called "Hundloch", also known as the "Hundlochquelle", on the right bank. It is a few steps below the street. The water here comes from below from the Schrattenkalk into a rock basin, from where it pours into the lake. The dog hole is popular with divers.
