history

The first settlement in Wägital can be found around the year 406. The rule of the County of Alt-Rapperswil over the Wägital lasted until 1350. The two communities of Vorderthal and Innerthal separated in 1776. The parish followed this step in 1816. Since 1999 it has been linked again with that of Innerthal in the Roman Catholic parish of Wägital. After some difficulties, the road through the gorge into Wägital was completed in 1861. The old narrow way over Stalden has had its day. The Satteleggstrasse was built between 1940 and 1942. This creates a connection to the Sihl valley and central Switzerland , giving the valley some new impetus.
