The Cantonal School Glarus is a Swiss grammar school founded in 1956 in the Canton of Glarus . In addition to the grammar school, a technical middle school and a sports school are also offered.
building
In 1956 the school moved into the building of the old city school, where the state library is located today. The new school building was built from 1973 to 1977. It was inaugurated on May 20, 1977 and opened with an official event. The area of the school property is 12,500 m². The school building contains 79 classrooms, an auditorium, two lecture halls and a cafeteria.
high school
The grammar school goes beyond the mandatory school period of 9 years in Switzerland. If the canton school is attended directly after completing primary school and the Matura is completed, then one has completed the long-term high school.
structure
- The two-year Untergymnasium (7th and 8th school year) is completed after the 6th grade of primary school .
- The four-year grammar school (9th to 12th school year) is completed after the 2nd grade of the secondary school or the lower grammar school. The aim is to obtain the Matura as entitlement to study at a university or technical college.
Technical middle school
The Fachmittelschule is a full-time school at upper secondary level. The training lasts three years and leads to a Swiss-wide recognized Fachmittelschulausweis. The specialist baccalaureate can be obtained in an additional fourth year.
Occupational fields
The lessons are related to the profession to be learned later and are therefore geared towards a specific professional field in the knowledge and attitudes imparted. The Glarus High School trains the occupational fields of health, education and communication and information.
- Health : The aim of this professional field is to prepare students for training in the medical field.
- Pedagogy : The pedagogy occupational field prepares you for training as a daycare worker, teacher for kindergarten and primary school, sports teacher, social worker and social pedagogue.
- Communication and information: The aim of this training is to prepare the learners for professions like journalist, documentalist, interpreter, corporate communicator , tourism specialist and facility manager.
particularities
- The student body is a member of the student organization.
- The Cantonal School Glarus has had its own weather station since 2001 , which records all of Glarus' important weather data. The current information is available on the Internet and is stored there for one year. The establishment of the station was financially supported by the local company Kalkfabrik Netstal.
- The in-house observatory is looked after by the Glarus Astronomical Group and can also be used by non-school organizations and individuals on request.
