Kaoru Yachigusa ( Japanese 八千 草 薫 Yachigusa Kaoru ; born January 6, 1931 in Osaka Prefecture ; † October 24, 2019 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese actress and voice actress .

Life

Kaoru Yachigusa was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1931. She began her career in 1947 at the age of sixteen as a member of Takarazuka Revue , with which she stayed for ten years until 1957. During this time, Yachigusa played her first small film role in Takarazuka fujin in 1951 . Her first leading role followed in 1954 in the music film Madame Butterfly .

In the same year Yachigusa was seen in the role of Otsu in the award-winning historical film Samurai . In 1955 and 1956 two sequels of the film followed, in which Yachigusa also took part. The series of films by Hiroshi Inagaki is now known as the Samurai Trilogy .

Yachigusa's later film appearances include a leading role in the 1987 melodrama Hachiko Monogatari about the dog Hachikō , which was remade in Hollywood in 2009 with Richard Gere in the leading role . She also played a role in the 2013 drama Fune o Amu .

In addition to her acting career, Kaoru Yachigusa also worked as a voice actress. For example, she spoke Sawako in the 2014 anime Joban'ni no Shima and the title character Miss Marple in the anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple, produced from 2004 to 2005 .

Kaoru Yachigusa was married to the Japanese film director Senkichi Taniguchi (1912-2007) from 1957 . She worked as an actress well into old age and received several awards for her achievements.
