The Cape Freshfield is an icy cape on the East Antarctic Georg V. Coast . It lies between Deakin Bay and the Cook Ice Shelf .
The coastline near the cape was first roughly mapped during the United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842) under the direction of the American polar explorer Charles Wilkes . The cape itself was mapped in 1912 by participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition , led by Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . Mawson named it after Douglas William Freshfield (1845-1934), then President of the Royal Geographical Society .
