The Cape Mayo is a naked rock cape at the Wilkins Coast of Palmer Lands south of the Antarctic Peninsula . It forms the eastern end of an icy, 500 m high area between Cape Keeler and Miller Point . It also limits the entrance to Delisle Inlet to the south .
The cape was discovered on December 20, 1928 during an overflight by the Australian polar explorer Hubert Wilkins . Wilkins named it after William Benson Mayo (1860-1944), then chief engineer of the Ford Motor Company . The exact position of the cape was based on information obtained during an overflight in 1935 by the American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth and during flights and sled excursions of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) in 1940.
