The Cape Van Rijswijck ( French Cap Van Rijswijck ; also known as English Ryswyck Point ) is a headland at the eastern end of the Anvers Island in the West Antarctic Palmer Archipelago . It marks the southern boundary of the entrance from Gerlache Strasse into Schollaert Canal .
The cape was discovered during the Belgica expedition (1897-1899) led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . He named the cape after the Belgian politician Jan Van Rijswijck (1852–1906), Mayor of Antwerp from 1892 to 1906 and sponsor of the expedition.
