Cape Wild is a striking rocky cape on the East Antarctic George V coast . It is at the east end of the Organ Pipe Cliffs .
This cape is probably the one that the American polar explorer Charles Wilkes wanted to see on January 19, 1840 as part of the United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842). Wilkes named it Point Emmons after the future Admiral George Foster Emmons (1811-1884), lieutenant on the flagship of the exploration trip , the USS Vincennes . Participants of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson took a precise position determination and named it after the British polar explorer Frank Wild (1873-1939), head of the west base on this expedition.
