The Roman Catholic Chapel Linzenberg (also: Chapel in Linzenberg or Chapel on Linzenberg ) is located in the Linzenberg district of the community of Schwarzach in the Bregenz district in Vorarlberg . The chapel belongs to the parish church Schwarzach in Schwarzach and thus to the dean's office of Bregenz of the diocese of Feldkirch . The chapel is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows.

location

The chapel is located in the community of Schwarzach on the so-called "Linzenberg", a foothill of the Bregenz Forest Mountains . The chapel itself has no house number and is opposite the house Linzenberg 139 at about 555  m above sea level. A. located, about 120 m uphill from the Schwarzach local history museum .

history

The chapel was built through donations in the 1870s. Agathe Schwendinger is named as the "founder". Her father, Johann Schwendinger, sold the chapel with other properties in 1937 to Johann Rick from Dornbirn , Hatlerdorf , who in turn sold the chapel to Hermann Dür . For 20 schillings (1.45 EURO) he sold the chapel to the parish of Schwarzach with a purchase contract dated August 16, 1937, and provided Pastor Leopold Berchtold to the church with 41 ares, 4 m² of forest from his property, thus “the chapel on the Linzenberg in good structural condition ”remains.

In the 1970s, the structural condition was so bad that after a long discussion, a new building was built in the previous form. After the demolition on June 15, 1985, the reconstruction began with many volunteers and the chapel was rededicated on September 11, 1988.

Chapel building

The single-storey chapel is a very simple stone building free-standing on all sides with a gable height of about 6 m (total height with bell ridge about 8 m). The chapel takes up an area of around 26 m². It is a building with a rectangular basic shape and almost west-east orientation.

The simple door and the square, open bell ridge on the gable roof with four sound openings are located to the west. The gable roof is covered with plain tiles and the bell ridge is hammered in with copper. The building itself is largely plastered in white . On the south and north long sides there are two pointed arch windows in wooden frames.

The prayer room and the chancel are not separated from each other and the soffit of the wooden structure of the roof is included as a special design element in the prayer room.

Furnishing

Prayer room and altar

The interior is kept simple with a statue of Our Lady with Jesus removed from the cross in his arms ( Pietà ) as an altarpiece. In front of it a simple people's altar.

The chapel benches are made of plain, lacquered fir wood and are not decorated with carvings. There is room for about 12 people seated in the chapel.

In the bell ridge there is a bell that is clearly visible from the outside and that is rung on special occasions. The bell was donated by Werner Böhler.
