The Chapel of St. Thaddäus

The St. Thaddäus chapel on Schaafwiese is a small chapel in Plößberg in the northern Upper Palatinate . Built in 1709, it is one of the oldest chapels in the Tirschenreuth district and is a listed building.

history

Countess Anna Renate, the wife of Christoph Adam von Satzenhofen, had the chapel on the Schaafwiese built in 1709. The reasons for the construction of the chapel dedicated to Jude Thaddeus are not known. It is believed that the chapel was built when her husband began to rule the Hofmark Plößberg. The chapel belonged to the Plößberger Castle, which was privatized in the course of secularization in Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century.

In the following years the chapel became the property of the Lindner family. Bartl Lindner, the innkeeper from Plößberg, bought the building from his parents on December 19, 1817, and in 1828 returned it to religious purposes. Bartl Lindners bequeathed his property including the chapel to his son Johann Lindner, who sold the property in 1862, the chapel remained in his possession.

description

The chapel has a tiled floor. Inside there is an embedded stone holy water kettle in the left corner next to the entrance . There are remains of votive offerings , such as a small wax leg, Wies votive tablets from 1826 and pictures of the Bertl family's former Corpus Christi altar. Behind the meal grid in front of the altar are two smoothed granite cube , one of them carries inscribed the year 1828. The small altar with four wooden columns was probably created in the 18th century, the altarpiece showing the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus and behind them Elisabet shows , probably dates from the 19th century.

The small building has a front gable and a cornice above the wooden door . Each long side was provided with a window, as was the door to the chapel. Above the door is a small niche with a carved figure of St. Jude Thaddaeus.
