history

In 1883 the master plumber Wilhelm Scheller bought a plot of land from the widowed Mrs. Hubertus in the area of the manor Brunschwig. This plot was specially earmarked for the construction of a larger chapel. In November 1883 the foundation stone was laid for the new building and on March 9, 1884 the chapel of the Catholic Apostolic Community was inaugurated. The construction work was carried out by the company of master mason Carl Leberecht Schade. Otto Rost's company was responsible for carpentry work.

The extension of a two-storey sacristy on the northeast corner by the Broeßke construction company was completed in 1885. The hall with its stencil painting is said to have been redesigned around 1900 and the apse got a strong blue starry sky. During repair work in 1951, the paintings, with the exception of the apse, were painted over. In 1991, thanks to the initiative of the municipality, it was possible to carry out external repairs that approximated the original state. There were u. a. the gable roof re-covered with tiles and the windows renewed. A comprehensive renovation of the interior was also carried out. At the same time there was a comprehensive renovation and modernization of the sacristy.

Architecture and equipment

The chapel on the north side of Hubertstraße is a towerless brick building with an apse and a gable roof over a suspended roof. On the narrow side there are high round arch portals with accompanying round arch niches. The cross of the chapel is supported by a small round arch attachment. The gable triangle has a simple cornice . The access to the chapel is flanked by two linden trees, which were probably planted at the time of construction. The longitudinal walls are divided into three compartments by wall templates and have high rectangular arched windows, while their lintels are bricked in a roll layer and are accompanied by decorative strips. The eaves cornice of the building is located above a block frieze. On the north side is the apse, which also has arched window cuts.

Today the interior is simply painted in white and a modern glass wall separates the winter church below the gallery . The wooden organ loft from the construction period has a balustrade adorned with pillars and a clock. The organ dates from 1925 and was made by the Heinze Organ Building Institute in Sorau.
